Arena of Champions Not Loading: What to Check
Last updated:
If Arena of Champions stays on “Loading…”, shows CompileError, or reports “Failed to start”, first open the direct launch guide and confirm you are at arenaofchampions.live. Work through the checks below in order, changing one thing at a time. They help separate a slow download from browser compilation or graphics problems; they are not a claim that every failure has the same cause.
1. Let the first download finish
The official page starts a WebAssembly game client. On November 1, 2026, the main aoc_client_bg.wasm response reported 45,706,834 bytes, approximately 45.7 MB before considering other assets. That is a dated observation, not a permanent specification. A previous 38 MB estimate does not describe the file we checked.
Leave the tab open for about 60 seconds to observe what happens. A slower connection can take longer; there is no official promise that a minute is sufficient. Avoid refreshing repeatedly, which can interrupt the current attempt. If the loading screen still does not change, refresh once rather than opening several competing game tabs.
For a more precise check, open the browser's developer tools, choose Network, and reload once. Look for failed requests or a WebAssembly request that is still transferring. A request that is progressing calls for patience. A 403, 404 or 5xx response points to access, missing-file or server trouble instead. Do not treat every waiting screen as a graphics failure.
2. Read the complete startup error
The official startup code displays “Failed to start” when its initialization promise rejects. That prefix is a wrapper around the underlying error. Copy the words after it, especially the first CompileError, TypeError, or network status. Take a screenshot if copying is difficult.
A WebAssembly.CompileError means the browser could not compile the supplied module. Update the browser and restart it, then try the official page in another current desktop browser. An old runtime, an incomplete response, or a game deployment problem can require different fixes. A compilation message alone does not prove that WebGPU is disabled.
If the same detailed error persists in two updated browsers, stop repeating local changes. Save the message and report it through a support channel linked by the game itself. Include your browser version, operating system, and whether the error appeared before any game menu.
3. Check graphics support, including WebGPU when relevant
If the error mentions an adapter, device, renderer, WebGL or WebGPU, check graphics settings next. Enable the browser's normal hardware-acceleration setting if it is disabled, restart the browser, and update your operating system and graphics driver where updates are available. A managed computer may restrict those settings.
WebGPU availability depends on browser, operating system, GPU and driver. We have not verified a universal WebGPU requirement for Arena of Champions, so enabling an experimental flag is not a guaranteed fix. Use the exact error to decide whether graphics support is implicated. A missing navigator.gpu is useful diagnostic information only when the game is actually trying to use that API.
Do not apply Azeroth Survivors' requirements automatically to this game: its separate guide discusses that developer's explicit WebGPU notice. Browser games sharing a Warcraft theme can use different rendering paths.
4. Isolate cached data and extensions
Try a private window or a second browser as a diagnostic comparison. If that works, an extension, stored data or a setting in your normal profile may be involved. Private mode is not a universal solution: it can impose its own storage restrictions and may not preserve progress.
Temporarily pause a content-blocking extension for the game domain if requests are being blocked. Restore your usual protections after the comparison. Before clearing site data, check whether you are playing as a guest and whether you have a way to recover progress. Clearing cookies and local storage may remove a local session or preferences.
If needed, clear cached files for arenaofchampions.live first, then retry. Avoid deleting all browser data as an opening step. Do not install an unofficial “repair” tool or share credentials with someone offering to fix the browser remotely.
When local troubleshooting is enough
Once the menu appears, click inside the canvas so keyboard input reaches the game. Audio may also need a click before it starts. If the menu works but joining a match fails, record that separately: successful client startup does not confirm that matchmaking is available.
